A veteran teacher has requested a job sharing opportunity with another certified teacher in our corporation. The school board has tabled their decision, needing more time to consider what is in the best interest of children. Please help! Are there legal routes to take? Where is the research that shows it is better to plan a job share situation than the teacher with MS to take a zillion sick days throughout the year. I am a concerned parent.

A person with MS is protected under the Americans With Disabilities Act. Under the Act, employers are required to provide a "reasonable accommodation" for those with a disability. Whether permitting a job sharing arrangement is considered reasonable is determined based upon the proportionate negative impacts on the employer. You can read about protections for those with a disability at: www.eeoc.gov (http://www.eeoc.gov).
