i live in louisiana and my mother-in-law worked for a family dollar staore as a manager and she recently hurt her back filled out an accident report and claimed it with workers comp.well after all that the store laid her off.can they do that.

It is legal to layoff a person who is on workers' compensation, so long as the reason for the layoff is business-related, as opposed to retaliation for filing the workers' compensation claim.
How can you tell if it was in retaliation? Was she the only person laid off? Does the business appear to be robust - and it appears that a layoff was not required?
You mom can file a complaint with the state. The state will then investigate the matter for her. Let me know if you have any other questions.
