My husband and I drive truck for a living over the road. We were working for a company that runs coast to coast. We had loaded on friday in New Jersey and told dispatch we would be in California Late monday evening or Tuesday morning. We talked to them Monday, we were 350 miles from the yard. Nothing was said about coming immediately to the yard so we told them we would see them Tuesday morning. We spoke to them early Tuesday morning 8AM and was at the yard at 10:30. No one in dispatch had said anything about needing us any earlier. When I walked in the office. The general manager of the trucking said we were 2 1/2 hours late and told us to clean the truck out we were fired. We had been with them for 4 months. There Probation period was 90 days. We had never been written up for anything, had received no violations of any kind. Just fired on the spot. I confronted him about the reason for termination and what to put on job applications and was told to put. "It just didn't work out". What actions can we take and with who can we report ,this so it doesn't happen to other drivers?

Your employer can terminate you for any reason, so long as it is not for discriminatory reasons or because of retaliation in asserting your rights. Do you feel that potential discrimination on the basis of age, race, religion, disability, national origin, gender or pregnancy status? If not, there isn't much more you can do, unless there is some sort of written agreement in place.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
