I am in California working in a predominately male oriented field. The company I work for is in turmoil, and because I am new I think that I am a scapegoat for all problems.
I have heard through the grapevine that they have problems with me being a girl, and in a position where I tell men what to do. Even my boss made comments in front of others saying that I had a few strikes against me:1. I was a girl. 2. I was short and 3. I was cute.
I think that they are trying to find ways to get rid of me--they are watching me like a hawk and no one else is under the same scrutiny. What should i do in the meantime? I know that thee president is trying to give me a chance, but the board of directors is against that. If I am terminated, would I have a wrongful termination suit? Isn't there a statement in the laws that says if a persons work in hindered because of discriminatory comments it is unlawful?
Please advise.

Yes, you are very definitely protected by anti-discrimination laws, both at a federal level (if your company has at least 15 employees) and in California. You can read about the federal anti-discrimination laws at eeoc.gov. You can read about California's protections against discrimination at: http://www.dfeh.ca.gov/Statutes/fehainfo.asp

I have one other resource that you may wish to check out. A more detailed discussion of women's rights in California may be found at: http://www.caag.state.ca.us/publications/womansrights/ch1.htm

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
