How will the new overtime laws change exempt employees to hourly? My healthcare job, exempt, is one of taking call and working until the job is done NONSTOP and can go as long as 32 or more hours. We are going to hourly staus next week. I have been told overtime will not be available until after 40 hours in one week. How will we be able to protect ourselves from the employer setting artificial ends to our work day? I am not affiliated with a hospital.

You can learn more about the new overtime rules by looking at the following website: http://www.dol.gov/esa/regs/compliance/whd/fairpay/main.htm

It will accommodate alternative hours, so long as there is an agreement between the employee and the employer. (These are hours such as 4 10-hour days, etc.)

Let me know if you have any other questions.
