This happend in Michigan.
I worked for a company for about 2 years as a subcontractor for an automotive plant. My goal was to use this contractor to get into the plant that it worked for. In June, the factory decided to hire some employees. I put in my resume. They called me later that week for an interview on the 27th of April. I went in to the interview, all went weel, and then went home waiting for a call on the job. They called and offered me a position that started 3 weeks later. I went to my boss and gave him my notice of one week. He needed me to stay 2 weeks. We came to a decision that I would work a week and a half, take 2 vacation days and be done. That all happend, and then I went to work for the factory. When I came in, I had 11 uniforms from the previous job that I turned in to the dirty clothes bin at the factory to return to the clothing people. A month later, my old boss came to me and said "Do you have anymore uniforms? I said "no, I turned them all in" And he said okay, but can you double check. I said sure. Every week or two he would come to me and ask me the same thing, and everytime, I said "No, I don't have them." And he told me that they we're chrarging him $130 for the missing uniforms. Well when my 90 days came up to become a full time employee at the factory, they decided to lay me off. I went and spoke to my old boss about getting my old job back. He said "I'm training a guy now on 3nd shift, and I'll call you on tuesday (day after labor day.)...by the way, did you find those uniforms?" I told him I turned in all 11 uniforms. He told me to keep looking. I waited and he didn't call on tuesday. I called him that afternoon. He said "I want to give this guy another week to train and I'll call you on monday about the job. He never called. My friend at the factory said that they had hired a girl that I had gotten laid off with. Now, I'm wondering if he didn't give me my job back because of the missing uniforms that he insisted I still had. Now about 6 months ago, the clothing company brought in everyones uniforms, and took the dirty ones. They lost everyone of an employees uniforms. Now I feel that I didn't get my job back because a guy lost 2 uniforms of mine!! Is that some kind of discrimination against me for something I didn't do or have?
