At a hospital in Louisiana, a unit has mandated that nurses call in 2 hours prior to their shift, which is reasonable, but they are stating that the nurse must attempt to find their own shift replacement and provide the supervsoir with the names of who the tried to get to replace them. They are suggesting that each employee get the home phone numbers of their peers (they don't provide that) . This means that the sick employee has to spend time finding and calling other employees as early as 3 am to find a replacement. Is this legal?

If the amount of time to find the replacement is notable, such as more than 10 to 15 minutes, it should be considered as compensable time.
