Its seems that a new manager at my work has a major problem with me and I have no idea why? He has openly yelled at me in front of other employees and talkes about me when i am not around. i know this is not illegal but its what he said to me in private. We had a problem with scheduling and when i confronted him with it, he had an I can care less attitude toward me. He asked me to step aside and the first thing from his mouth was " Idon't know if its because your a women but why do you get worked up? This coming from someone i know may not affect me the same way but coming from a manager that I think hates me upsets me. Is this overreacting? can he treat me different because i am a women? please give me a leg to stand on because I am afraid i will get fired if i tell someone at work? Thanks

Discrimination on the basis of gender is illegal. However, it's important to keep in mind that federal discrimination law on sex discrimination is applicable to employers who have 15 or more employees. (Some, but not all, states bring the law down to smaller employers.) Also, discrimination is seen as a pattern of singling someone out because of their gender. One comment, though distasteful, may not be pursued by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. However, if that comment is accompanied by other actions that may be discriminatory, it may be lead them to believe that discrimination exists.

In addition, it is illegal to retaliate against someone who has filed a complaint of discrimination. You can learn more about discrimination at the EEOC's website: www.eeoc.gov

Go to talk with the human resources department (if your company has one) or, if it doesn't, you can talk with your manager's manager, etc. Of course, you have the option of going to the EEOC for assistance.
