I just got a better job. I have 9 days of accrued vacation time at my current job. I put in a request for a week off three weeks ago and it was approved. My new job wants me to start in 2 weeks. I had read on one website (workplacefairness.org) that arizona is one of 23 states that requires employers to pay out accrued vacation time on the final paycheck. I read somewhere else (can't remember) that, while companies do not have to offere vacation, if they do offer vacation, they must follow the vacation guidelines outlined in the employee manual. My employee manual states that an employee will get paid any accrued vacation if they give 2 weeks notice. I'm worried, though, that since the second week of that two week period is my scheduled vacation. I'm worried they may fire me just so thay don't have to pay me. I have looked through title 23 and am unable to find anything to support what these websites have claimed. Are they correct and, if so, where can I find the laws that support it, in case my boss puts up a fight? Thanks!

There isn't any Arizona requirement to pay vacation to employees who resign unless that is the standard practice of the employer. Even then, your recourse may be that you have to file a claim against your employer through the civil court system.
