I am trying to help a very good friend who was recently written up for refusing to come in for overtime on his scheduled day off? I have read on the forum that in Nevada an employer can require you to work overtime. However from what I am reading at the Labor Commisioner it is unclear whether A) Advance notice is required and B) whether they have the right to require you to work on an unscheduled day basically your day off not part of the work week? If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

TIA

To respond is difficult because it depends on the type of job, what is a normal shift for the job, is it an exempt salaried position or just hourly or a hybrid of both, or is the job exempt from certain OSHA or occupational health and safety rules due to waiver or exemption.

The position is hourly and he is a Room Call Engineer for a Hotel. The normal shift is 7-3 in his case Tuesday thru Saturday.

Yes, he can be required to work overtime on his scheduled day off. Advance notice is not required.
