Hello all,
a relative of mine is going to become a naturliazed US
citizen in the next year, her Ukranian passport has expired. She owns a
flat there that she would like to sell but is hearing lots of mixed
information. She knows about the Hague convention, but it seems like
nobody else does. What are the proper procedures for selling property
in a foreign country. Ukraine does not allow dual citizen-ship though,
and I'm not exactly sure how that relates to all this. Anyway thank for
any professional guidance anyone car provide.

Why? As long as she isn't a US citizen, she obviously is a Ukrainian
citizen. So she can renew her Ukrainian passport and go over there
selling her property.
Since the OP stated that the Ukraine does not allow dual citizenship,
she would no longer be a Ukrainian citizen once she becomes a US citizen,
and couldn't use the Ukrainian passport anymore.
Once she is a US citizen, she may need a visa to travel to the Ukraine.

yes, i admit my mistake, i misread OP. What I was trying to say, if she
intends to use this passport to go to Ukraine AFTER becoming USC, this will
be asking for trouble.

well thanks for the advice here though.
Okay here is the story she
can't renew the passport appearentely here in the U.S. She has to go to
the Ukraine.
If she had in her passport though stated that she came
here to live permantely in the U.S. to move or something similar to that
other wise she tells me she can't get it renewed here in the states.
One of the questions that Ukranian immigration would ask not if she
has USC but if she has 'applied' for it, and she has and the appointment
to show up could come any day and she's afraid that if she goes to the
Ukraine the letter will come from the Dept. of Homeland Security (INS)
for an appointment.
I'll post to the other forum soon and see what
comes up there.
Thanks,
Dennis

Does your friend really have to be in Ukrain to sell property. I just
sold mine in England whilst lounging around here in the States. I got
regular updates on progess via the web, and my solicitor in England had
power of attorney to sign the deeds over.
Good Luck whatever you/she
decides to do.
