I work as a director in my division in a company, I have 5 juniors under me. I am currently a non-exempt employee and wish to switch to exempt. I approached the subject and was told by this company that according to some law, I dont qualify for exempt employee status. What determines whether or not I am exempt or non-exempt. I was told there was a 'law' regarding it but know nothing about this... does any one know the requirements to be exempt employee in California?

You can read about exemption at: http://www.dol.gov/elaws/esa/flsa/screen75.asp

California's standards are somewhat the same.
