What is your personal opinion on young offenders given a less sentence than adults? Fair? Not Fair? How come?

My opinion is irrelevant, but there is wide discrepancy because different states and different communities have different values and beliefs about how to deal with juvenile offenders versus adult offenders, and at what age a juvenile offender should be treated as an adult offender. Also, there are many factors taken into consideration in punishing the crime: the level of involvement, the severity of the crime; property crime versus crime against a person; level of violence used in the crime; did the offender use a weapon; was self defense an element of the crime; what was the mental capaity or mental incapacity; was there insanity involved; were there accomplices that influenced the criminal activities undertaken, etc....
