:confused: I was fired from my job of 3 1/2 years for leaving for a family emergency. Can they do that? Im in Oregon.

Yes, they can, as long as they are not treating you any differently than others on the basis of age, disabiity, national origin, pregnancy status, race, religion or gender.

There are leave laws that protect employees who need to take a leave of absence to care for a seriously ill family member. However, those leave laws are not applicable unless the employer has 50 or more employees in a 75 mile radius and that both the employer and the employee gave appropriate notification. It can not be applied retroactively. I'm providing you the information on loa laws for your future reference.
