I was recently terminated after 27 years with a company and with never having even one blemish on my record. I had never even used a single sick day in all those years. I was terminated for having unauthorized overtime call in's which the company called theft of time. I was never warned even though the supervisor received overtime reports every week and had never said a thing to me. He went back 4 years. I work in Oregon.

It is unfortunate, but the company can let you go as long as you did not have a contract stating otherwise, or unless they were specifically discriminating against you for age, sex, race or religion.

Remember to file for unemployment as soon as possible since it is not retroactive, but begins the week in which you file.

I also am a member of Teamsters so the firing is being grieved but I don't have a good feeling that they will help. And I have filed for unemployment but it too is being held up because I told the truth when filing about being fired.

As far as unemployment, you can get fired and still receive unemployment as long as it is not for certain violations.

Make sure if you are denied that you appeal the decision -- it is standard practice for companies to deny all claims.
