britishley 09-18-2004, 04:10 PM thanks for the help, im removing this for paranoia ;) LConnell 09-18-2004, 04:37 PM What a uncomfortable work environment. There is no law against what she is doing, unless she is singling you out because of your age, disability, national origin, pregnancy, race, religion or gender. If she is not being discriminatory and if your employer is not ignoring the situation because of your age, disability, etc., but, instead, she is just doing it for other personal reasons, there is no legal recourse. Aside from the legal side, have you talked with her, without being confrontational? For example, you may ask her to lunch one day. When you are together, let her know that you want to do whatever you can to ensure that you have good working relationships. Let her know that you are feeling uncomfortable in that you are sensing that she is displeased with you. Let her talk from there. If she isn't receptive to your effort to make peace, then you may just need to live with the situation or find another position...one without the kind of personality that exists within your current employer. Let us know if you have any other questions. britishley 09-18-2004, 06:15 PM thanks for the help, im removing this for paranoia ;) LConnell 09-18-2004, 08:10 PM The company has to have at least 15 employees in order for you to be able to file a charge of discrimination. You can learn about that process at eeoc.gov. Based on the situation you described, however, it probably wouldn't be seen as illegal discrimination, even if the company has 15 or more employees. Unfortunately, there is no legal recourse at that point. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. * Find more information on Equal Employment Opportunity-Discrimination. |
