Hi,

My home was broken into and roughly $30,000 worth of musical instruments, cd's dvd's electronics were stolen.

State Farm has been messing with me for over a month now. First they just needed an inventory list of things stolen, then they asked for receipts ( unfortunatly I don't save receipts) And my bank doesnt send me my cancelled checks. I feel like I am screwed.

I asked my agent if I ever signed anything stating that I could only be reimbursed if I showed /saved receipts. He said No! The Claim rep states different. One acused me of not being able to afford my items then turned around and said they were probably used for business purposes so they arent insured under my homeowners. They just keep looking for a way to get out of paying me back, it seems!

I have given them pictures of over half of the things that were stolen but I guess NOW this isnt proof? They asked for manuals , I gave them those.

Now they want me to give a taped statement.

Basically they are saying to do one thing and once i do it they want to me to jump through another hoop.

Should I get a lawyer? If so what kind of lawyer?

Anybody else had a similar problem?

You are semi at their mercy. Here is my advice. I would call and ask to speak to a claims supervisor. I would lay out my case just as you did for us. I would tell them that I have "jumped through all of their hoops," just as you have told us. Also, write them a letter, detailing all of their requests that you have entertained, and that you have given them all of the documentation that you have. Tell them that you desire a successful resolution, but that if this claim is not resolved within [whatever timeframe you desire] days, you will be seeking an attorney. Stress to them that this is a valid claim for which you are anticipating immediate payment.

Hope this helps.

Yes. Get an attorney and join those who have to sue their insurance company to effect coverage. as for the kind of attorney, contact the state or local bar association for a referral
