HR-539 would allow the spouse/child of a US permanent resident to
enter the US without any yearly numerical restrictions.
Currently, foreign spouses are not allowed to visit their partners in
the US for any reason, until they are able to obtain the immigrant
visa from the foreign embassy. The wait times for obtaining the
immigrant visa is currently 6+ years. This causes unnecessary hardship
to thousands of families who have to live apart for many years. Family
re-unification has always been a cornerstone of US immigration policy,
and I would urge you to please support this bill.
Please write/contact your congressman to support this very significant
bill.
How about this. Have the partner that is in the United States visit the
spouse in THEIR country.
Problem solved.

Most people pursuing the American dream work 50+ hours a week and can't
usually afford to take 2 week vacations to travel to see their spouses, who
might have more time on their hands. I wholeheartedly support this bill.

So their non-working spouse (likely sitting around waiting for the
next
installment of dollars via Western Union to show up) can come to
"visit" and not return home? Now we've got an additonal person who
has not come in via legitimate means, with no marketable skills and
existing in a society where the cost of living is significantly higher
than at "home." The already overworked spouse now has to support them
here by taking on an additional job? Why not have them stay where
they are, where the dollars sent go further, and let "Mr. American
Dream" make a slight additional sacrifice to go visit there if it's so
important. You're proposing opening another loophole to let the lower
strata of society expand even quicker than it now is. The missus
shows up with three kids in tow, enrolls them in the public schools at
US taxpayer exepense, pops out one or two more to justify staying
here, etc. Yeah, *that's* a good idea to encourage such behavior!
I'm calling my Congressman now to ask him to vote NO on any such
legislation! Thanks for the heads-up!

How about white trash quit whining for a while? If you are worried about
losing your job etc., take it up with the business leaders and their

> I'm calling my Congressman now to ask him to vote NO on any such legislation! Thanks for the heads-up!
Not so fast! First try to understand all sides of the debate.
Here's my situation, for example:
I am an extremely hard-working, well-educated, law-abiding Green
Card holder, trying to become a US citizen in the future.
I earned 2 Master's degrees in the US, from very good universities.
I earn a six-digit salary and pay five-digit taxes each year for
quite a while. My wife lives abroad and she is a very well-educated
person. I love my wife very much and I suffer a lot from not being
able to live together. I work 10-11 hour days and I have only 10
days of vacation per year, so I can hardly visit her at all. And she
cannot get any US visa because she is my wife (wat a cruel joke)!!!
My work productivity goes down and my health deteriorates.
I wake up sad and I go to bed sad every day. Is this a payoff for
being an examplary resident of this country - not letting me re-unite
with my family?!
And it is such a pain seeing all those students and temporary
workers on F1/H1 visas easily and happily bringing here their
spouses on F1/H2 visas!!! One of my neighbors on F1 brought
here his wife who can barely speak English and they already have
2 small kids and they invest NOTHING into this country and its
economy compared with me! What an ugly, unfair system!
At this moment I am seriously thinking about quitting my job (probably
losing it forever), losing my income and living abroad with my wife
until I get my US citizenship so that I can bring her here legally.
Yes, I am willing to sacrifice the American lifestyle for a right
to stay with my wife - that's how much I love her! I won't let this
stupid law ruin my life. Uncle Sam should realize that he will
be losing my huge tax dollars and the economy of this country will
be missing my money too for a while. And let me assure you -
when my wife finally gets here and when we have a kid, we will
make a much higher contribution into this society than most of these
ignorant people spewing anti-immigrant rant on these discussion boards.
Joe.

it'll never pass.
Why?
Cuz you can think your local illegal alien who loves to break IS
rules for that.
Think about it:
So you allow them to visit.
Oh guess what? 80% of them DON'T return back!
They all stay here til their spoues becomes a USC. Then they FILE for a
GC based upon marraige to a USC which FORGIVES OVERSTAYS!
Voila. They found a loophole.
The IS isn't that damn stupid. They know people are always reading the
laws trying to find sneaky ways to get one above them. Everytime you
see rules get toughened -- it's cuz loser aliens were taking advantage
or exploiting it.

Vacation times in the U.S. are about two weeks per year.
Also maitaining a long ditance marriage is difficult. But of course
you know that. If you are oppose to immigrants and
legal immigration, you should just advocate that rather than make
foolish suggestions.
One efective way would be to end H visa; next is to limit
family immigration to the spouse and childeren of immigrants.
This way legal immigration ends without undermining the
institution of marriage or destroy people's careers.
