Hi !
After winning a greencard i`m in Virginia since 4 weeks.
I already have my SSN and proof of permanent residence.
To obtain a driver license in Virginia i need two proofs of identity.
Only my passport with the I-551 stamp in it is valid.
Nor my german driver license or id card is accepted.
I dont have any american documents. Only on holiday i stayed in the
USA before.
This is stupid, i have to wait until i get my greeencard. The
greencard and my passport are the only accepted documents.

Is there any workaround to get the driver license earlier ?
It may take up to one year to get the greencard.

If you're a male under 26 y/o, you're required by law to register for
Selective Service ( www.sss.gov ). Then you'll have a Selective Service card
which will be your second ID.

Visit California, to get driver license here, for identification you need
used ticket from the bus or train and picture. Best if you are illegal, no
questions are asked. And do not forget to register to vote as a democrat.

Go into the same office and get a picture ID using your passport and maybe
birth certificate.

then get driver's license.
but why bother about Virginia? your German license should be valid in that
state.

Do you have an EAD (I-688B) that they accept that as Primary ID as well?

No, i only have a stamp in my passport, that i`m on I-551.
I don`t have a job, my requests are still running. On I-551 i don`t
need a job
to immigrate to the US.

As i said, it can take up to one year after i get my official
greencard.

Today morning i was at the embassy. They told me that there is no
chance for me to move around the law or rules from the DMV.

This is probably the best solution. I took a look at the requirements
of Maryland to get a driver license, and .... yeah !
In Maryland my SSC is accepted as proof of identity.

but why bother about Virginia? your German license should be valid in that

And how would they know if you are a resident? maybe a tourist for 6 months?

Sometimes it's more expensive to insure the car. If you want to go to a bar,
then they may ask for a US DL.

Actually tourist insurance is cheaper.
And no bar will aks for a US Dl.
