Hi there,

I received a speeding fine whilst on holiday in Florida last august. i
have yet to pay the fine, and was wondering whether this will
hinder/affect my entering the U.S (New york), next month? I've got
visions of being turned away at immigration, can anyone put my mind at
ease? Also, if it was a problem, are you able to pay any outstanding
fine at the point of entry?

Thanks for any advice

I received a speeding fine in 1999 in Virginia. I paid it by debit card
when I returned to the UK - you can just call them and pay it that way
before you go. Not sure about Florida, or how bad your speeding
violation was, but in VA the fine is something like $3 for every mile
over the limit you went.

Generally, it won't affect you for immigration purposes unless an arrest
warrant has been issued. It could cause you some problems if you return
to the state where the offense was committed.

I'm from Florida, and I was able to pay a ticket over the phone once.
In your case, I'm not sure if you license is suspended or not for
failure to pay it on certain time, b/c that could mean that you have to
show up in court in person.

Also, you can check your license online, to see if you license is
suspended, and also if you can pay the fine online, and clear
your license.

Here is Florida number:850-920-9000

Also, check this website that has answers to your questions.

http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/ddl/faqsuspend.html#11

check the website below and choose your county where you can pay your
ticket online.

http://dlis.dos.state.fl.us/fgils/coclerks.html

Here, you can check your license to make sure it is not suspended or
there is a warrant against, and if your license is valid or not at:

I hope it helps

Good luck
