In March 2002 I got a notice to appear for fingerprinting in SF, which I complied with. In May 2002 I moved from SF to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. On arrival, I called INS and updated them with my new address. In December 2002 I received a letter (at my new address) asking me appear for my citizenship interview on Jan 14, 2003 in Philadelphia (closest processing office). On Jan 14, 2003 I went to Philadelphia for my interview, where I was informed that they could not interview me as my case file was still in California. The INS agent told me that she would get the file transferred, and that it would take no more than 2-3 weeks. She also kept my original letter informing me of the date/time for the interview. She gave me her name and phone number. After a month (around February 15th), I began calling and leaving messages for her. No response. I have also sent her 2 letters, including one by registered mail. I still did not hear anything. When I call the INS/BCIS inquiry line, they tell me they can't help me as my interview has already been scheduled, and that it is now in the hands of the District office. In May, I visited the Philadelphia office to inquire, and was told that my case file was in San Diego (I lived there before San Francisco, and my Green Card was issued there). I again left a note for this agent asking about my interview. The note was left with the agent working at the counter. Today is June 30. 5-1/2 months have passed, and I have heard nothing. What are your suggestions as to how to proceed? Is worthwhile to retain a lawyer to inquire on what is happening with my case? Thanks in advance!
