View Full Version : two questions...MN and NE

Ok, I've got two questions I hope someone can help me with. The first is this:

I was renting the upstairs portion of a house in Minnesota. Kind of a roommate kind of thing, since there was no private entrance and I shared a kitchen and laundry room. Anyway, the owner of the house stated that he didn't want a lease because of the shared living spaces. If it didn't work out he wanted to be able to end it. So what we had was basically a verbal month to month agreement. I was transfered with work to Nebraska. I gave the owner 6 weeks notice. I ended up leaving earlier than planned, but still paid him rent through the time I had intially said I would be leaving. However, he has refused to refund my deposit. What steps can I take? I'm assuming I need to file a lawsuit, but how does that work when I now live out of state?

My second question is regarding my new apartment in NE. I signed a year lease in February. The one thing that need to be done in the apartment was that the bedroom door was missing. I was told this would be repaired immediately. Well, it is now July. And I still have no bedroom door. What can I do? I've called them on this several times and they keep saying they're working on it. I'm happy in the apartment, and have no other complaints about the property managers. I want to stay here, but I also want a door on my bedroom.

Any responses to either of these questions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not sure waht to say on the MN deal because there is not a lease. He could say the deposit was lost because you did not stay the full term and broke the oral lease early. So I suspect you can forget on that.

Bug the management and be in their face all the time about the door, leave messages, etc.... Maybe they will get the message.
