So, I must be doing something right.
You have never been caught.
For one thing, I always stop at four martinis. That's my limit. And I always wait a good thirty minutes to drive home after downing that last martini.
Thats enough to put an average size man over the limit in most states.
AFter 30 minutes, you are probably at your peak in blood alcohol.
To me, this is good common sense. I have always prided myself on exercising good common sense.
You couldn't prove it by me.
Another thing in my favor is that I am on a first name basis with a good number of police officers in my area, including some of our state troopers. I am also a regular contributer to our police charities every year, and I know this helps.
Fantastic!!!! We will pass that fact along to the survivors of
someone(s) you have just killed.
Sometimes, when I am driving home from a bar, one of these police officers I know will pull me over. Not to give me some stupid sobriety test or nothing like that. But just to chew the fat a little bit.
Oh....we sure wouldn't want you to be inconvenienced by a little DUI
arrest or anything.
I don't want any of you to think that I can't hold my liquor and drive home, you understand. I happen to be one of those who can. I bet I drive better better at a BAC of 0.10 than 90% of all those drivers out there who haven't had a drop all day.
By golly, thats what all the drunks say....so it must be right.
But that's neither here nor there.
Neither is a morgue.
What worries me is that a lot of the "old guard" police officers in my area are retiring. In their place are all these young new cops being hired, none of whom know me, and none who would have learned to exercise the good common sense to refrain from stopping me when they might suspect me of driving under the influence.
You mean the good common sense of doing their job???? Getting impaired
drivers off the road??? The only lack of good commons sense I have read
thus far is (1) you driving after having 4 martinis and (2) your story
that officers let you go.
Here's my question. How do I handle these young new cops? When they pull me over, and start acting all gung ho, and ask me: "Have you had any alcohol tonight, sir?"
Oh....you mean "gung ho" as in doing their job????
It would be a hell of a lot easier and cheaper if you took a cab or had
a designated sober driver with you.
What is the best way to respond? What is the best way to prevent them from doing something stupid, like trying to give me an actual sobriety test?
So you think doing a sobriety test to get a drunk driver off the road is
"stupid"??? Your attitude is the only stupidity I have read about thus
far. (BTW, this is where I am getting the impression you have to be a
troll)
Do I tell a total lie... and say: "Sir, no sir, officer, sir. I have consumed no alcohol tonight whatsoever, sir!" Or do I tell a little half lie......and say something like: "Okay, I'll be honest. I did have one drink about an hour ago. I always wait an hour before I drive home after having a drink. That's my policy." Now, then. I'm not stupid. I know damned well that if you stopped me because I was weaving or swerving all over the road, like most common drunks do when they drive, then it wouldn't matter a tinker's damn what I said. But I'm different. I know how to handle a motor vehicle with a few drinks in my system. Therefore, the only reason you would stop me is due to some sort of random sobriety check or something like that.
Oh yes!!! You are different!!! You are special!!! The laws of
physiology and chemistry do not apply to you!!!! Alcohol doesn't impair
your judgement!!!! Heck, I bet you could win the Indianapolis 500 after
4 martinis!!!
So, in the event something like this happens, I would like to get a good "heads up" from some of you pros out there, as to the best way to get over these young new cops who are still wet behind the ears.
The heads up is to step out of the car. Tell the officer you have been
drinking. Put your hands behind your back. Prepare to go to jail.
Have a wrecker service picked out to tow your car.
Fraternally Yours,
You are in no fraternity that I want to associate with. I only hope
that if you crash before you get caught, you only hurt or kill yourself
and no one else. You are a danger to anyone and everyone on the road
or anywhere close to it.
Before you get the idea I one of the "young new cops still wet behind
the ears", I have been on the job for 28 years.

Many actions make accidents more likely, and the effects of them vary from
individual to individual, moment to moment. Factors such as fatigue, common
distractions, etc., all have been shown to lead to more accidents than
alcohol. Now, one of the big campaigns is against driving with any alcohol
in your system -- to the extent that people such as yourself assume that any
drinking will make anyone a more dangerous driver than almost anything
else -- to the extent that if anyone even contemplates such an action, they
are quickly assumed to be killers and insulted -- to the extent that
roadblocks are set up and constitutional protections against unreasonable
search and seizure ignored -- to the extent that you so quickly label
someone who questions this a troll.

pop campaigns have made impossible to see. Sorry, but in life there are many reasons for tragedies, not possible to sum up with a few simple words. It is simple math. You should be able to handle that. The more alcohol you consume (and then drive), the more liklihood you are to be involved in a crash and hurt or kill someone. Very simple concept. It has been proven over and over again. You call it programming, I call it training. But the training I have gone through is based on scientific surveys and research. Many actions make accidents more likely, and the effects of them vary from individual to individual, moment to moment. Factors such as fatigue,
common distractions, etc., all have been shown to lead to more accidents than alcohol. Now, one of the big campaigns is against driving with any
alcohol in your system -- to the extent that people such as yourself assume that
any drinking will make anyone a more dangerous driver than almost anything else -- to the extent that if anyone even contemplates such an action,
they are quickly assumed to be killers and insulted -- to the extent that roadblocks are set up and constitutional protections against unreasonable search and seizure ignored -- to the extent that you so quickly label someone who questions this a troll. Sorry, but unlike they tought you in the DARE class, not everyone outside your class is on drugs. More, many of those who are on some mind altering drug, are probably those you might get along if they somehow found themselves here. Never been to a DARE class troll boy. Never said or implied everyone outside "my class" was on drugs. Your last sentence makes no sense what-so-ever. Get yourself down to the detox center and get off whatever it is you are on. If by chance it is prescribed by a physician, have him/her modify the dose. You are very quick to assume I am on drugs. What you don't get, is that many who are on certain drugs, would be more agreeable to whatever you suggest, less willing fight -- perhaps you would even like much of the population to be on prescriptions, as you seem to wish and fantasize I was on. Marini: believe it or not, people on newgroups often mistype/mispell words, so you have to figure typos out yourself. Troll boy, I figured it out. You made such an issue out of reading and comprehension, I was making a point. Oooops......sorry, here I just suggested you get your medication dose changed and am now asking you to think clearly without giving you a chance to get cleaned up and/or get your dose modified to help in that process. My bust. Now, now, not everyone is missing their medication. I would make sure that the offender takes full responsibility for what they did, and justice is served. No excuses please. Yes, in todays P.C. world, we have bad and good reasons for doing harm. For me it's just the same -- a bunch of crying cowards trying to avoid retribution for the harm they caused. Please cite specific examples of what you are trying to say. I actually do not disagree with this. If you are piloting a 1.5 ton missle on a highway, then it is your responsibility to see it is done safely or be held accountable otherwise. What I'm tired off, are so many laws punishing individuals for behavior before they have even harmed someone, while many people who have hurt
others "by accident" are let off with little or no punishment. Such is
especially the case in regards to traffic laws. Next time, just tell him you can't help him in that. If you just want to lecture, be prepared to get lectures back -- here on the net, being a cop gives you no special positon in this. Not gonna happen troll boy. He posts a message in a public forum advocating an irresponsible behavior that is dangerous for everyone. I have the right to respond in anyway I feel. So, people are so stupid, someone will go drinking 4 martinis and driving from his post? Now, please take something before you respond next time -- I'm sure you can find something to keep your emotions in check. I think free and open speach is good -- stupid people will do stupid things regardless of what you say or write. As you assumed that 4 martini man was a danger on the road because
many drunks are, I will assume that you act above the law, as many cops do. When you paint others of a group all one color, you will also be painted
with one color. Again. Cite ONE instance where I have conducted myself "above the law". Put up or shut up troll boy. Cite one instance where Mr 4 martini harmed somoene from his drinking and driving. That was the point -- responding to you as you responded to him. Also, be careful mixing alcohol with whatever it is you are on. Sorry, not on anything now. Let me know how your mixing goes. motocat

I have visited southern Spain. Love it, and hope to visit again. Rented a
motorbike there and had no problems what so ever with other drivers. Maybe
the people who always complain of how bad all the other drivers are, are
actually the ones with a problem. I assume others will make bad mistakes,
and drive accordingly. Those who are always getting mad at others for bad
driving are often the worst of all -- it's not like they are just being
picked on.
