The problem here is most states say 80mph is not safely.........so you can't cruise at 80 safely. Bull. What the state governments say is not relevant, what actual data says is. On some chicago area interstates there is sometimes 80 mph traffic flow. There is no unsual rate of collisions to the best of my knowledge. Just try to explain that to the Judge..........I would give my eye teeth to be standing there when you said that!

The judge is not there to decide safety. The judge _is_ there to determine
whether the law has been broken.
Also, I've cruised at 100mph safely, safest driving I've done in my life in fact. It was also legal btw. Legal where? In Europe but no where in the States.......... they would lose everypenny for state Highways..... just ask Nevada......until they changed there law...... They worked fine for me.

So when engineering principles tell us that setting the speed limit to
the 85th percentile is the best way to maximize safety, what would you
say about limits set to the 1st percentile?

I don't feel _all_ laws are written for the safety of the people, but for
the sake of simplicity I'll agree with you, as I feel _most_ laws are
written for the safety of the people.

Judges don't make laws. It is the legislators who decide on the safety of
things and make laws regarding them. The judges job is to decide if specific
occurances were in violation of the law. It's as simple as that, judges do
not make laws.

Oh, did you ever get those links working? If not try pinging the root site
of each link. If an address is resolved but no reply your DNS is wroking
properly. If that is the case, do a pathping and find out if the fault is
local to you, with your ISP, or after you get off your ISP's network and
onto the internet. Report back with your findings.
