My husband works as a Maintenance Supervisor for a large housing company. He just transffered to this new position from one of their other properties. He currently supervises 4 other technicians who are retalliating against him. They have been making false accusations about how he handled a situation and are going to the property manager. When the property manager confronted my husband she told him his story did not match what the other 3 tech told her. She told him she would assign there daily work for now (which is his job).

He is so stressed out by the retalliation that he wants to transfer back to the old property. His previous supervisor and office manager are both fine with him coming back but he is afraid with the recent situation that they won't let him transfer back. His old property manager told him to put his request for a transfer in writing and submit to the new property manager and when and/if he gets transffered back he would resign as the Maintenance Supervisor.

What do you think the best course of action would be. I hope I was clear enough.

In order to answer your question about the best course of action, you need to post back and tell us WHY your husband believes these four technicians are doing this. Is it just because they're not happy to have him as their new boss or is there some other reason?

2 of the 4 techs applied for the Supervisor position and did not get it for lack of experience. My husband feels that's why they are retalliating. Just recently 1 of the techs quit and left early morning and then came back and took the others out to lunch which is where he believes that they came up with their story to tell his manager.

Thanks. I needed to know if this was any form of prohibited retaliation. It isn't. Nothing illegal is taking place by these tech's making false accusations.

The question your husband and the rest of management has to address is whether they're going to let the tail wag the dog. If these tech's are successful in running off their new supervisor, management can assume that every time this group gets a new boss or is given a work assignment they're not happy about, the same pattern will repeat itself - again and again and again. You aren't happy about your boss or don't like what he's told you to do? Make a false accusation - management will fold like a house of cards. Hey, if it works, why not? These guys aren't stupid.

I suggest your husband schedule a meeting asap with his boss and any other member of management (HR?) that should be included and talk through the situation. If they don't see what's taking place, then your husband needs to explain it to them. Whatever decision management makes now is going to affect the workplace for quite a while to come, as other employees may well decide that if it worked for the maintenance techs, the "false allegation against the boss scenario" will work for them too.
