Hi All,
My primary residence is a townhome located in Montgomery county, maryland.
There is a tree which has grown quite big and tall on my front yard and the branches are extending now on my roof top.
I was thinking of cutting it completely.
I was wondering can I do that ? or do I have to take permissions from someone to do the same ? or is it completely illegal to do so ?
Help is much appreciated
Thank you all in advance.

Please! Can anyone shed some light on my query ????
Thank you

First, impossible to answer this online as this is a local matter. It also depends on where the tree is placed, whether you are in a green space zone where you cannot cut trees without approval or authorization, if the tree is protected by ordinance or other law from being removed from the area,etc.... I suggest that you contact your local land use body to determine or get a referral to a section of local government that can help you determine this. Some trees are protected and some trees are not.
Also there may be some kind of information on this in your deed or if you are in a planned community or condo townhome development, there may be existing rules on this that you ahve to follow.

Hi, rsj,
I read your question today by chance because I am reaching the solution for the same problem as you said.
I knew the big tree close to my house is community's but it is too big not only the branch have wipe the wall but its roofs have touch the house foundation (root dia is about 2 in). roots have come out of the grade.
I know it would damage my house soon or later but I really do not know how to handle this problem. I concern the herrican season if something happen ......
You would be greatly appreciated for your solution or any suggestions you could send me.
Best regards
