I just checkedthe NVC automated information line andit has told me that my
case was finalised on the 19th July. I was just wondering roughly how long
is it taking for London to recieve the paperwork and issue an appointment
date. Looking on Expats at a few of the timelines this year it seems to be
approx 6-8 weeks from NVC finalising the case to the interview date in
London.
Would this be a good estimation? Just wondering so I know when to quitwork
and start selling off everything we dont need (Almost everything lol)
One other thing, we have a cat which my US wife has gotton so used to
shewants to take it with her. We have checked the requirements which will be
met for travel but need to know which airline would probably be best (We
would be leaving from Manchester and probably enter via Chigago or Newark as
thats the norm when we visit her family every 3-4 months)
Thanks in advance

Ours was finalized in early June. Still waiting for the embassy to send
the packet. Do you know what is the average wait ?

Traditionally summer ranks as the longest timeline for wait for an
interview date. Last year I believe it was more like 10 to 15 weeks
before they were up to par again. And remember with the recent
terrorist activities in London, the delay might be longer.

Hold off quitting until you know when you will have an interview.

Hi Utah,

You probably don't like this answer, but the best time to quit work and
sell everything is when you actually have your visa *in-hand*. You
never know what will happen to potentially delay receiving your visa,
and you don't want to be out of work and out of a place to live.

The visa is good for 6 months, so you still have time after you receive
it to quit work and sell your things.

Best Wishes,
Rene

Re: the cat

I've flown my cat several times on different airlines, mostly domestic
but one time it was international (to France). Each of the airlines
handled it similarly; IMO there's not a big difference between airlines.
You will want to find out how much each charges, and whether they will
let your cat in the cabin (underneath the seat in front of you). If
they do not allow small pets in the cabin, you may want to find out
about sending the cat as "cargo" as opposed to regular baggage check...
cargo will cost a lot more but they seem to keep better track of cargo
than baggage, much less likelihood of your pet ending up misdirected.

Hi

I brought my cat from Manchester to Chicago on BMI. It cost us 196 GBP.
It isn't BMI that deal with the paperwork it is another carrier called
Airspace Aviation that operate from the World Cargo centre at Manchester
airport. Your pet still flies on the same BMI flight. They were
fantastic as was BMI. I asked BMI cabin crew to let me know when my
cat was on board and three of them came to tell me!! At Chicago They
announced my name as we taxi'd into the gate and someone met me at the
plane door to tell me where to collect my cat. She had already been
inspected at the airport public health department and was waiting there
for me. She was absolutely fine and has acted like she has lived here
all of her 12 years!! I worried myself to death about my 5 year old dog
who came a year earlier and was less worried about my cat although she
is quite an old lady to be emigrating!

Good luck

Maggie

Continental might let kitty fly in the cabin with you. You gotta call
them about it though. I know 'cause our pet rabbit was going to travel
with us like that. (Was, because he's getting a bit older and had a few
health problems and we decided on not bringing him - I'm worried that
even if he's in the cabin the flight would kill him).

Thanks Maggie,
I think we'll try your route as I love flying BMI from Manchester to
Chicago, I love the huge choice in flight entertainment lol
Really though out of the few different Airlines we have flown I have always
found BMI to be the top of my list.
Thanks for that I'll start to look into it.

I dont know if it helps Sam but I checked with NVC and it tells me my case
was sent to London on the 26th July (My case was finalised on the 19th
July). I have been advised somewhere on a later posting to wait about 30
days before I start emailing or calling London to see if they have recieved
it.
