I submitted info. this morning regarding my wrongful termination, but I have several other issues with my employer as well.
I was employed as a Nanny for three months. I was not given our agreed on apartment in a safe area wher I felt comfortable (and also where ($800.00 a month I earned was supposed to have been going towards).
The apartment I was instead allocated had "timer lighting," although it never did so correctly. The lights would come on at different times throughout the day and hardly ever in the evening hours.
I informed my employer about this issue on several occasions as did other tenants. I fell down the stairs on the lower level of the building severely injuring my back and leg and have not recovered 6 months later. I left a phone message for my employer over the weekend when I injured myself indicating she had to fix this problem with the lighting immidiately, especially due to the fact I injured myself. That Monday morning I was informed my employer's located another Nanny over the weekend. When I expressed shock over this fact, she rudely stated "well, you were leaving the 17th and we needed coverage," knowing very well we agreed I was staying full-time until the 17th of the folowing month until their child was due to be born on the 17th.
My injuries have completely negatively impacted every aspect of my life, interferring with my sleep, my ability to sit for even small amounts of time, to exercise, etc. I also have not been able to wear any footwear besides flip-flops for 6 months because of the swelling in my left foot- no other shoe fits over it!
I recently got insurance coverage from my current place of employment (after 3 months) and have been examined by a chiropractor, my primary physician and X-Ray Techs and will be soon seen by an Ortho. Surgeon. Even my co-pays have proven too expensive for my budget.
Most importantly, I plan on being commissioned in the military in two years and am worried how these injuries will affect my level of physical fitness in my military career and in terms of being deemed medically qualified. (My commissioning has already been delayed for having bronchitis in high school over 6 years ago.) I have already lost my cardiovascular endurance as well and have to employ methods other than running to stay in shape.
How should I approach this case?
Should I lump all of my problems including wrongful termination and past due wages for the apartment I never had as well as my injuries into one case?
Will it be difficult to find a lawyer who is equipped to handle these interrelated issues?
Should I sue for my wages that were supposed to have been utilized for a specific apartment in small claims?
Thank you so much for your time and I greatly appreciate any assistance you may be able to offer.
