Hello.. i am in need of some information pertaining to work conditions under florida state regulations.. my boyfriend works for a company in which the building he is working is not air-conditioned, and heat inside reaches in an excess of 100+ degrees.. somedays the heat got up to 115 deg F!!!

is there anything saying that the employer must provide instruments to help prevent heat exhaustion/stroke/stress within a building other than industrial fans that can only do so much? or can the employer basically do whatever he/she wants. This seems to be a hazard waiting to happen because for the past week my boyfriend has been coming home of work complaining of headaches. He does everything he can to cool down, ie drinking fluids, getting into the a/c parts of the building during break times..etc

any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

His employer is resonsibile for insuring that employees working in hot conditions be provided with liquids to prevent dehyration. Also, it is the law that this employer post OSHA approved posters informing employees of the dangers of heat stress and the effects of ignoring symptons of extreme heat exposure that could lead to injury, even death.

I work in the HVAC/R industry. Everywhere I go is dangerously hot. And until recently I never really knew what my employer's responsibilities are to his employees. Check out http://www.laborlawcenter.com under Labor Law Posters for Florida.

Just having fans in place does not provide adequate protection to employees exposed to the hazards of working in hot environments. Ask your bf if his employer has OSHA posters prominently displayed advising employees of the proper methods of working safely in a hot environment.

If the employer does not....call OSHA to inforce complaince.
