Hello ~ My son is 17 yrs old. He works 4-7 hours after school and from 6-10 hours a day on weekends or holidays. He said he is not allowed to take a break. Please let me know if Alabama has any laws on this. Thanks!

As far as mandatory breaks are concerned, Alabama only requires a break for persons who are 14 or 15 years of age. Your son, therefore, is exempt from that law and is not eligible for a break.

I recently started a new job in alabama (around 4 months ago) as part time. 3 days a week between 6-9 hours a day. I was told when I started the job that Alabama law states you HAVE to have a lunch break if you work more than 6 hours a day, it is taken out of the check even if you dont take it or clock out for it (30 minutes is taken out), is that correct? Also, yesterday after working in the sun for around 3 1/2 hours I got a drink and sat down for around 5 minutes when a person (not a boss or manager just superior to me) came up and asked what I thought I was doing. When I replied taking a quick break she said " You only work 6 hours today, you dont get ANY breaks" Can they make you work for 6 hours without a single break??

I have been working for this company in Alabama that wont let any of their employees have a lunch break or 15 min break of any kind, and thats working an 8hr. day to a 16 hr. day is'nt there a law against that? :mad:

No, it is not against the law.

Neither Federal nor Alabama law requires breaks of any kind for any employee who is over the age of 16. Federal law does not require breaks AT ALL; Alabama law requires breaks ONLY for minors 15 and younger.

I am a work study student in Birmmingham Alabanma. I am not allowed to work more than 25 hours a week. I recently got a new Memo for Work-study at my colloge that stated "All employees are erquired to take a one-hour meal break during any day where they work more than six hours. One hour per six-hour will be deducted from each work study student's time worked as a meal period". Is this correct? Where in the regulations can I find my answer.

Did you read this thread? Employees 16 years of age and older are not required by law to receive meal breaks or rest breaks. The statement doesn't say the LAW requires you take a meal break. If your employer requires you to take a meal break, even though it is not required by law, you take it.
