I think I am experiencing reverse descrimination. I am young for my position, and I work with a lady who is 60+. I work full time sometimes 65-70 hours a week. She is part-time logging about 15-18 hours a week. That job is my life and it seems like I just can't catch a break from her. She thinks I am just some "dumb kid with dumb luck." I love this job and see a future in it but other people have started noticing how she is treating me and there is talk of disciplinary action towards her. She says that if anything happens to her she is going to sue for age discrimination. She already has her lawyers ready! She has single-handedly gotten five managers fired in the last four years so it is obvious she knows what she is doing. I am scared I am going to lose my job! Is there anything I can do to protect myself?

Age discrimination protects those who are 40 years of age and older. So, even if she is picking on you because you are fairly young, you do not have protection under federal law.

My suggestion is that you go to your Human Resources Department (if you have one) or to her manager and up the chain of command. Let them know your concerns and ask them for assistance.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
