  After seven years of employment my former employer eliminated my position.
They are a non profit Christian organization in California, I was only offered 2
weeks severance pay of which they indicated I had to earn it by completing a list of task prior to my date of departure. I feel that I should be entitled to more severance for the number of years of service. Also, my medical/dental benefits ended 6 days after my termination when they said that they would carry me to the end of the following month, where as in the past there were some other employees that quit toward the end of one month and they carried them on health benefits on to the end of the following month. I was deny sabbatical leave pay, because they said I did not complete 7 years of service when I did infact complete 7 years and had they not eliminated my position I would have been able to apply for such leave. Is the above a form of discrimination?

Probably not...unless you were singled out for a discriminatory reason, such as adhering to a different religious belief, etc. There is no law that requires an employer pay severance or give a sabbatical, in time or money.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
