I was wondering if anybody can give some advice. This morning I received a call from my sister saying she was fired from her job that she just started. She had had three interviews and in the last interview the boss stated that the position was down to two interviewees, herself and another lady. Thursday of last week she went down to the company to see if they had gotten any closer in making a decision. They said they had decided to hire both of them would like her to come to work as soon as possible that day. While she was there she experienced her boss coming in very obviously intoxicated. She thought she would go ahead and stick with it, thinking you should take the good with the bad and maybe he is not intoxicated all of the time. While she was there she learned and observed from fellow co worker and office manager (whom was the boss's girlfriend) that the boss was a alcoholic and drug addict (cocaine). She stated that he has made a drunken scene at just about every public place in the greater St Louis area. She came to work on Friday and was off on Monday for the holiday. When she came in on Tuesday, the other new hire noticed the fact the boss was glaring at my sister and pointed the fact out to her. When my sister asked why, the new hire stated that she was late. In her interview she was told that her hours were from 8:00 to 4:30 with a half hour lunch. She was there before 8:00 that day and so she asked the boss about this. He stated that the work day begins at 7:30. She finished working and the next day she came in at 7:30 as instructed. When she got there she got fired. They said that she was late on Tuesday and that was cause for termination. When the office manager explained this to my sister she let her know that during all three of her interviews the boss was very out of it (as she calls it). The thing that she was upset the most about was the rate of pay she received for the days that she did work was very wrong. In her interviews they had agreed to a salary of $32,000.00 per year. The salary she was compensated for was only $20,000.00 per year. I was wondering, is this unfair under state laws, have any violations been made ? I think this is a horrible way to run a company and do not think this person has a right to treat people in this manner . Any advice will help !!
