I am working in Washington State for Lacey Parks. I am confused about the legality of what my employer wants me to do. I used to have a regular monday-friday work week and my employer wants me to switch to a thursday through friday schedule. This week, for the transition, I started monday and am getting saturday and tuesday off. This means I will work a 7 day week: Sun,Mon,Wed,Thur,Fri,Sat,Sun,Mon and then get the Tue and Wed off.

The employer says he cannot give overtime because it is a transition. Is that legal?

I pick up trash all day and will be very tired. I am not looking forward to this.

Even though you are working 7 days in a row, the additional days may not be considered as overtime if your employer's work week (not yours but the work week upon which the company bases its overtime calculations) is Sunday through Saturday.

As I look through this again, I believe that you are owed overtime for the sixth day in the first workweek, assuming that you work 8 hours a day.

I talked about this with the boss and he gave me another day off and explained the work week thing. They are good about this stuff and I feel much more secure.

Great. I'm sorry I didn't catch the problem to begin with.
