View Full Version : Unilaterally changing my hours from 40 to 45 a week

I work in Pennsylvaina. I am a salaried employee. I was hired with the hours of 8 am to 4:30 pm. Now I am told that my hours would be 7 am to 4:30 pm. I was informed that my original hours were incorrect. Though it was not challenged until my eighth month of emloyment.

They also went as far to say that my position requires 50 hours a week and it was discussed with me on my interview. This was not the case as I pointed out to them.

Can they unilaterally change my hours of employment? If so, is there any compensation that must be offered for the mandatory change?

Right now, they want 45 hours, but what will they want next week? Please advise.

Thanks,
PAEmployee

Your employer can set the hours you work and does not have to offer additional compensation for those hours. Even though you are exempt, the employer can do this as long as their is a business need to set those hours.

Hi.
You do not say if you are EXEMPT. If you are, then no compensation is required and they can set their hours as they want.

However -- if you are not exempt, overtime pay starts after 40 hours worked i one work week.

Do you know if you are exempt or non exempt?
