Our landlord is remodeling our bathroom and we will be without it for probably a week. I'm not sure how I will work around not having a toilet when I need it, or a shower for a week. Is our landlord within his rights to take away our bathroom for 5-7 days? Thanks

Landlords have to do repairs and most leases make provision for them to do that. If this is a problem with your situation, I suggest speaking to the landlord and asking for him to pay for a hotel for the duration, to make other arrangements for your bathroom and bathing needs in another apartment unit, and/or to pro-rate your rent for the period of repairs.

Hello,
I have the same issue, but the landlor wants me to move my family from this two bedroom apt to two different one bedroom appartments for one month while the repairs are made. Three members to one apartment downtown and the other three to a different one at a different address. She wants me to pay rent at both appartments and open new electricity accounts for each. Is she required to pay for a hotel while the repairs are made?

Check online with your state's local landlord/tenant laws...it should give you some of the answer's you need.
Some state laws..will fine landlord's if they don't comply or fix the problem within a certain time frame (if you have reported it to the right authorities/department)...or will state that the tenant can hold their monthly rent payment in a escrow account instead of paying it to landlord until the landlord remedies the problem.
Every state's tenant/landlord laws are not the same, so research carefully or contact a attorney that does free consultations, before having to spend more money when you don't have too.
Because most landlord's will not tell you what your rights are,(especially if it put's them in the hot seat) or especially if they know you have every right to break your lease, or put money in escrow acct..because they don't want to lose money.
But by all means...all landlord's are not bad and do care about the welfare of their tenant's.
But there are more bad one's out there, than good one's.

ive been in a similar situation and depending on the work that needs to be done, i was not without use of my toilet or tub, he replaced that in the one morning. if the repairs will require you not to have access to a bathroom at all then ask him to put you in a hotel until finished.
