Based on this link:
http://www.kamya.com/aos/california.html
it would appear that in the San Francisco area, one often gets the 1-year
EAD the same day as submitting the AOS application in person?
Is that still the case? Am I allowed to choose with office I go to? San
Francisco, San Jose and Sacramento are all options for me..
So, if I do get EAD the same day, then if I get married a week or two after
entry, then getting the PEO stamp doesn't really matter (presuming I don't
mind that initial gap), right?
Thanks,
Mattias

Hi Mattias,
Unfortunately, the information on Kamya site is a bit outdated. The
AOS packet must be submitted via mail. The EAD/AP must also be
submitted via mail. There is no longer a walk-in for AOS. Once your
packet has been reviewed and processed, you will get a packet that
acknowledges your submission of AOS,EAD and AP. Also, you will receive
in this packet an appointment for biometrics and a letter stating the
date you should present yourself to the district office to receive your
EAD/AP. The AOS interview date letter takes several months.
Do
remember that the district office is determined by where you live in
California. If you live in San Jose,Milpitas or something like that you
will use the San Jose office. If you live in the East Bay or SF, you
will use the SF district office. Go to the BCIS website and find your
county for your district office for submission of the AOS packet and
also carefully check the submission requirements for the District Office
for the AOS,EAD, AP applications..
Good luck

days?

We're in Alameda, so it looks like we're using the SF Office..

Hi,
It's been a year since I sent in my
application for AOS in San Francisco. At least back then, it seems like
it takes about a month and a half or so to get your notice of receipt
for the I-485, EAD and AP. Count 2 or 3 weeks from then before you can
pick up the EAD and AP in person.
I applied for a renewal EAD and AP in
March this year, and I received the notice of receipt in less than a
week and got the actual EAD and AP 2 weeks later.

We submitted
our AOS/EAD on 12/7/2003. Our notice of actions was January 30, 2004.
My husband picked up his EAD on 2/5/2004. His biometric appointment was
for 2/13/2004. The cash register receipt shows 12/16/2003 (this
apparently is unimportant). Anyway, the addresses are specific for the
I-485 and EAD. I can't remember them, but I did try to submitt the
packet directly to 600 Sansome street and it was returned to me with an
alternate address. Check out the BCIS website for details and I will
look for the paperwork that went with that. Our interview date is
6/14/2004 and I am trying to compile a packet for the interviewer that
will be quick and painless.
