Hello, I am new here, From Maryland.

Back when I paid child support and got behind in arrears and son turned 18 then the Custodial went down to the c/s enforcement office and closed my case and that was that.

So this is an option for many parents to do. It stops a lot of trouble and it stops the baggering of the non custodial and it gives the custodials the chance to do the right thing too.

A win / win situation for everyone.

Some states may not allow parents that option, especially if there is an arreargage for past public aid to the child. Some states also charge interest on arrearages and may not want to let that money go so quickly. Beware that it will depend ont the state and possibly the court.

When my first x left and i filed for divorce. She went on AFDC even though i was making payments to her for support, I had to payback the aid she recived.
