My wife is applying for citizenship. She has an appointment for
fingerprints in 2 weeks at a Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, Virginia office.
Does anyone have any experience on how long the appointment takes? Is it
in-and-out, or should we plan on spending half a day there? The appt. is
for 8am.
Thanks for any anecdotes.

I had my fingerprints taken in Detroit yesterday. It's an in-and-out.

I went there in September '01. I would have been in and out quite quickly
but my day was apparently the overflow day for naturalization applicants who
had missed their appointments and for some reason they were let in first. So
perhaps allow half a day but hope for much less.

I had FP done there last
summer. Definitely plan on half a day. The whole thing took about two
hours for me. Make sure you know the location; it's pretty far S from
the beltway and you can drive by without knowing it's there.

We sent it in about a month ago. We were surprised at how quickly we got
the appt. I suspect things are downhill from here, though, in terms of
time. I hear it takes at least a year to get the citizenship.

Thanks
Buck. You know the wierd thing...the USCIS web page reports that DC is
working on N-400 apps from Nov. 28,2003. I thhought it was a typo as
maybe they were working on apps from 2002, but for three months now the
year has been 2003.
My hubby just hopes maybe he will get his
citizenship in time to register to vote for president.

My wife and stepson were both in and out within 20 minutes. If your
appointment is at 8 I'm guessing you'll be out as soon as the
computers warm up.
