I will be getting married in 3 months after my divorce is final. I'm the
USC. My fiance is in East Africa and we have a 2 month old son. I read
on the consulate website that i can qualify to DCF if i stay in the
country for atleast six months. Because of the child, i'm planning on
staying in East Africa until my fiance and our son have secured Visas.
Is this a good idea or should i come back here and file a K3? The K1
is out of the question because it takes too long. I'm choosing the DCF
route because we no longer want to be separated.
The reason why i'm
having second thoughts is because i have not been able to get in touch
with the consulate in order to get detailed info on DCF. The consulate
is in Kenya. Anyone who has had experience with this consulate, i would
appreciate your input.

remi,
Kenya's website makes it pretty clear that it is realistic to expect
that you can file the I-130 there. It will be filed with an "INS"
office abroad, by the looks of it, which is similar to what we did in
Athens. It is lightning-fast approval compared to K3. If you are
already there, and plan on staying there, DCF is designed for people in
your circumstances.
The website gives email and phone contact info:
pursue the Immigrant Visa Unit and don't forget to register the birth
of your son, if that took place overseas.

remi,
If you are the birth-mother, not a step-mother, your son does not
need to get a visa. He needs to get a passport.

Of course, the Internet also tells us that hot naked women want to befriend us, so we can't be 100% sure about everything we read there. (Dave Barry)

Thank
you Jeffrey. I'm actualy male so that makes me the "birth father"! I
should have said my fiancee instead of fiance on the original post,
sorry, my bad!!!
Will my son be able to get a passport even though I
took the Oath 2 weeks after he was born??? Will I have to proove
paternity before the passport is issued? (not that i doubt that i'm the
father, i just need to have everything ready).

DCF!!! Lucky you!:):)
As for
paternity, I have heard you have to prove you are the biological
father/mother, but don't quote me on this one though:)
GOOD LUCK!
