Around how much did it cost you (or how much are you planning to have to
spend) for the whole visa process (inc. medical, translation of
documents etc...) of bringing over your non US citizen spouse??

I dont know the full cost as I
have only just got my K1 visa.....I as a UK citizen have spent so far:
£125 for my medical, £65 for the visa fee and theres more to come once
we are married and have to adjust status. I dont know how much my USC
fiance paid for the I-129F visa fee.

I feel it doesnt matter how much
it costs to me as long as I am with my fiance! :D

That's $110.

I
suppose by the time you've factored in moving costs, airfares etc., it
works out to be a tidy sum.

Yea, I got to find a shipping/forwarding
company to move all my stuff yet. Yikes!!! What an expensive job it is
to emigrate.

I see it won't be long before your interview date as NVC
have received your file. It usually goes very fast after that.

Good
Luck xxxxx

Good Luck xxxxx Thanks
Gisela. We'll be summer neighbours so you must keep in touch once
you've moved.

I think ballpark I'm spending $5k to get from 1st base to
landing in the US.

OUCH!!! THAT IS MEGA EXPENSIVE. Does that include
wedding costs? ;)

I bet not!

I can't imagine how much we will be
spending with visa, emigrating and wedding plans.. I don't want to
think on the costs it's too nightmarish! :D lol

Let me know how you get
on with your process and interivew please :D

For us, the cost from the I-
129f all the way to now (we're figuring in the checks we just wrote for
AOS), has been $1361...that's not including the cost for flying to visit
each other at ant time during the process.

~I-129f fee $110
~Postage
Fees for mailing the packet by certified mail and for sending my fiance
all the papers he needed on the London end and the cost he paid in
postage to have the packet 3 sent certified. $70
~Cost for getting
certified long-form birth certificates for both he and I. $40
~His
police report fee. $16.70
~Bank fee my bank charged to have 2 letters
written for each Affidavit of Support. (I-134 and I-864) $70

~Notarization fee for Affidavits. $20
~Fare for night Bus to London
for interview. $75
~Charge for hotel room in London. $140
~Medical
Exam Fee. $210
~Cost for vacination at medical. $60
~London interview
fee. $100
~I-485 fee. $255
~I-765 fee. $120
~Fee from courthouse to
be married. $25
~Certified copy of marriage certificate. $50

I've not totaled up the entire six years but with
the I-129F and then the K-1 fee, medical in Canada, AOS in the States, 2
EAD's, 2 A/Ps, fingerprinting, I-751 removal of conditions,
fingerprinting again for N-400, fee for N-400, cost of days off from
work because of interviews, going to NYC to pick up EADs and separate
appts for A/Ps, Naturalization interview, swearing in ceremony, I would
not be surprised if the total for that alone is over $4,000. That does
not include the wedding which was $1750, accommodations for our guests
for two days, airfare for our guests to fly in from Vegas, Halifax and
Virginia, their meals for the weekend, moving costs from Ottawa, eight
months of non-work for my husband when he first got here, vet costs for
the two Canadian cats that came through the border, the costs to get a
new car that would not met US specs for importation.

All in all the
cost would be over $10,000.

Damn I knew husbands were expensive but
this is ridiculous when you can't even claim anything as deductions on
your taxes.

Hey Honey!! Come here, darling, time to pay off some of
those bills !!!

LOL

Yeah, but add 14 days of hotels, a two week rental car, a few
nights out (and DAMN is everything more expensive with the Euro), and a
few things to bring back...and the credit card statements said $3000.

Would for the days of cafe', copa y faria for 20 duros, after a menu
del dia for 400 ptas

figured in hotels and the like. I must get that other half of mine to
treat me to a hotel. Next week I'll be staying in a demolition site,
aka his house under renovation!

I'm really going to miss the low cost
of eating out here. But then it's swings and roundabouts. Electricity,
petrol and phones are a lot cheaper in the US.

heck I didn't include those. Let's see, we met every other
weekend in Lake George from August 97 through December 97 and then air
fare for him to fly to NY for Thanksgiving and then me to Ottawa for
New Year's Eve, then Valentine's Day, then July 1st Canada Day, and
stays again in Lake George inbetween those trips. Okay add another
$2,500 to the $10,000 I said earlier. Damn that courtship was
expensive and that is not including the phone bills ... Egads whatever
were we thinking of

I'm trying very hard not to think about
it! No wonder the EAD is such a priority when we move!

No two situations are going to be the same. One big factor is the country
where the other person lives. Much cheaper having a relationship with
someone that lives in Canada or Mexico than someone living in Europe, South
America, Australia or Asia, unless your job takes you there. Figure at the
minimum, filing fees, plane tickets, phone calls. Plus whatever you spend
on a wedding. My thinking is like buying some very expensive item, if you
have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it.

I suppose if youre going to add in flights to and from, hotels etc then
we shoudl also be adding cost of phone bills .... eeeek I get another
white hair even thinking about that, we're still paying off the credit
card bills 20 months later !

The fees for K3 are even
more because you have to file an I-130 ($130) in addition to the I-129.
And then, possibly file the I-130 again to do AOS (another $130!).

But.... due to being able to file taxes this year married filing
jointly and then excluding my husband's foreign income.... we get a
much bigger deduction and save about $600. I figure that at least
offsets some of the filing/postage/copying fees.

Sure doesn't offset
the travel expenses, phone bills, etc. - the I-fell-in-love-with-a-
European penalty!

God i'm scared to tally it all up so far and we aren't even at the
interview yet.

I know I've spent well over half of my salary the last
2 years on travel to see my fiancee or have her come here.

Probably at
least £500 so far on certificates, filing the 129f and postage...

Anyway its all worth it!
