I have a question again......

Is it possible to go on a cruise to Bermuda without AP as my future in
laws want to treat us to a honeymoon.

Or is it too dodgy and not possible?

TIA

Last time I checked Bermuda was not part of the US, thus you would need
to go through customs. Too risky if you ask me to do it without AP.
Ask for a trip to Hawaii or the US Virgin Islands instead! :D I
wouldn't want to risk being separated so soon after getting here, esp
after going thru this entire process already!

A definate no no Whistle. I think you'll find that US Virgin Islands
are a no no too. There was even some dispute over Hawaii! Luckily with
the US there are a wealth of places to pick.

Are you getting married in Boston?

I spoke to our lawyer about this same thing...ABSOLUTELY NOT was
his response.

Have you been to Las Vegas? There are lots of things to do..

I would definately not leave US soil.

How nice of your future in laws to offer this. Maybe once your AP is
approved??

No matter what you do or where you go....Have a wonderful honeymoon!

Jamie,

Need to go through Immigration also - a bigger problem than Customs.
Customs doesn't care about AP, but one would never get that far anyway
as Immigration would stop them first.

US Virgin Islands are fine. We were actually married there.

You have to through Customs before leaving. The officer knew exactly
what the K1 visa was and there was no confusion.

I don't know why anyone would strongly advise against it. It's legal
and you don't need AP.

There are certain issues to avoid, such as getting on boats to other
islands or using a cruise ship for the vacation.

Ah OK, I have misread the OP. Taking a CRUISE to the USVI is not a good
idea, but flying directly to St. Thomas from the US mainland is OK.
There is a distinction - sorry for the confusion.

Don't worry we won't be going to the Virgin Islands. It was only cos my
future bro in law and his new wife was going and also it was a special
deal departing from Boston.

Maybe we will go to Vegas instead :D

sibsie,

While you're at it, see if you can find the dispute about visiting our
50th state.

Yes, I know. I just wanted to make sure the information displayed about
the USVI was correct.

sibsie,

Interesting statement by Mr F - it's not clear to me what he is
thinking might make the trip unsafe, other than passing through another
country en-route.

I wonder if the converse in true - would it be unsafe for a pending
immigrant on Hawaii to visit the continental US?

This is what I was told. My girlfriend who is an immigration lawyer
thoroughly checked all this out before we decided on getting married
down there. We had thought about Hawaii as well and she explained that
you run this risk of being re-routed through another country. The same
holds true for the USVI.

impression Mr F was alluding to something else with HI. My fiance and I
decided to play safe and save trips for when I've got AP.

Noone takes a passport with them when they go to Hawaii, and the issue
of citizenship or residency never comes up when you land in Honolulu
(you DON'T go through Customs or Immigration if you're flying from the
mainland). Same thing with Alaska. Done it several times.

I've never thought travelling to Hawaii would be "unsafe." Maybe Mr
Folinsky can explain further...?

We want to go to HI for our honeymoon.

Anyone with a K1 Visa went to
Hawaii?

Can you share your experience?

I came here on K-1, we got married and travelled to Hawaii without me
having AP. There was not any checkings on the way there and back,
because it is 50th state of the USA.

We went to Hawaii on our honeymoon. I only can say it is probably the
perfect place for honeymoon! Warm tropical air, beautiful ocean,
exotical plants. If you want to have active night life(I mean show,
restaurants, dancings and so on), I recomend Waikiki(Honolulu), island .
But if you want to spend your honeymoon in quietness , island Mauii is
the place for you.
There are also some other islands, you just look up
the tourist information about Hawaii and choose the best trip for you.

Hawaii are also called "exotic paradise", so I think it is the place to
go on the honeymoon!:-))

I would think the same would be true for Alaska as well
then, right?

I find this discussion very interesting. Given that
both Alaska and Hawaii are full-fledged STATES -- just like Florida or
Michigan or Arizona -- I would've thought that entering and leaving
those states would not involve any immigration at all. In fact, I
would consider making a trip to Hawaii the same as making a trip to
New York -- I'd be going from Virginia to a different state, period.

The only difference between going, for example, from California to
Alaska/Hawaii and going from California and Oregon is that you fly
instead of drive. Unless you're just a really crappy travel planner,
it shouldn't be hard to manage getting a direct flight from California
to Alaska/Hawaii without a stopover in another country.

And IF your
direct flight from CA to AK/HI had to make an emergency landing in
another country, or was rerouted to avoid dangerous weather
conditions, I find it appalling that the US government would penalize
you because your plane had to land outside the US to protect your
safety (as well as that of everyone else on board with you).

But
then, I wouldn't be surprised, either...

I will have to vote for Kauai. :) Maybe I was too sick to appreciate
Maui (I did NOT survive the road to Hana), but Kauai is just gorgeous.
We stayed on the south side near Poipu, but the north end is even
better. The nature is so spectacular.
