What did you mean about a wrinkle in IBIS for cheching status ..
Please explain.
Mike
If you have a receipt notice, you know they have your case. True, they
might lose it once they have it, but that is not as common an event as
you might think (its actually pretty rare). If you have a computer,
you
have access to the reports they themselves put out that will tell you
if
your case has likely been given to an officer yet (IBIS wrinkle). Once
you determine that your case has likely been given to an officer, you
can calculate a realistic overdue date and contact them if the case
becomes overdue.

Do a search under IBIS and I'm sure you will find dozens of postings
that will give you the information you want about IBIS.

Matt didn't seem to feel like answering so I'll give it a shot.
I beleive that IBIS is the system they use for background criminal
checks. If they find your name or a similar one (often called an "IBIS
hit" on this board), they need to do more research. So that will hold
up your case. I beleive that's what he meant by an IBIS wrinkle.
Good luck.

Thanks Eric.
I would have given a longer answer, but I've got too much to do today.
Not only am I trying to get an I-129f case out the door today and on its
way to the TSC, I've got a gig tonight requiring a little prep work to
be ready for the performance.
I was practicing with the new band line up last night after work (my
singer and I auditioned guitarists and drummers last month) when the
call came in from our booking agent asking if we could fill in at Pat's
Place as they had a last minute cancellation. We agreed to take the spot
(even though we were not planning to accept shows until mid January),
and this will be our very first show with the new line up (which
includes Rob on Guitar, who also plays drums in the punk band, Third
Grade Teacher, and Shannon on drums... a fantastic drummer who also
happens to be totally blind).
So part of my morning has been spent doing a few errands getting ready
to play this show tonight.
If anybody in the area wants to attend (There is no cover charge), Pat’s
Place is located at 12121 Riverside Drive, in North Hollywood (101 to
Laurel Canyon exit, then go 1 block North. The first street is
Riverside, and turn left. It’s immediately on the right hand side of the
road… you can’t miss it). If you do attend, please be sure to come up
and say hi.

Wow, a lawyer and a musician, too. Good luck with the gig. Sorry, I
can't make it. I'm on the opposite coast!

Right near where I grew up! Yep, I was a "valley boy"! I first lived
not to far from where Lockheed used to be. Its strange to see them gone
-- the "Skunk Works" founded by Kelley Johnson was nearby but is now out
in Palmdale/Lancaster.
Can't attend tonight. BTW, thanks for the season's greeting card --
look at the calendar and you will see that tonight is the first night.

He sets up his own set, and I’ve yet to notice his blindness getting in
the way of him doing what the rest of us do. He’s a very accomplished
drummer, and for practice he uses our practice set we have set up here
in the studio. Didn’t miss a beat and it only took him a moment to get
dialed in on this new (new for him) kit.
I’ll be seeing “his” drum kit for the first time tonight. Last night he
mentioned it is a blue colored kit, and he said he knows its blue
because someone told him it was blue (he was born blind and can’t
distinguish colors… he said he’s got 20 x 800 vision which he says means
that at 20 feet away, he can see things about as well as you and I would
see when looking at something at 800 feet away).
We had a little fun with him asking him what he thought we each
looked like, and I recall a practice where he finally said, “hey, is
that a black light on the wall” (the black light was pretty much
right next to his head, burning for a number of practices before he
knew it was there).

No, but Larry and I did the studio musician thing a couple of three
months ago and recorded (and I wrote and recorded the bass parts) the
vocals, drums and bass parts for an album for this guitarist up in
Alaska. I’ve seen the art work for the project, and I’ve heard the
finished tracks. When he releases it officially, I’ll let you know where
you can order one.
As for tonight’s show, here is the list of cover tunes we’ll be doing.
Keep in mind that we’ve only been together a few weeks, getting together
once a week or so to work these out. Plus, with Pats, they like us to
start the evening off with a softer 1st set, then work up during the
course of the evening. So we threw a bunch of “oldies” in to help water
it down to Pat’s taste.
There are quite a number of newly released songs from various artists
that I want to eventually incorporate into the set (I kind of like the
Three Day’s Grace song, I hate everything about you, and Saliva’s,
Always. Same goes for the new Puddle of Mud stuff, the new Perfect
Circle stuff, and even a couple of the new Chili Peppers tunes), so we
can pick and choose depending on the gig. And we did have to eliminate
some of the older cool tunes we used to play, mainly because Larry’s
voice just can’t do what our old singer could do (like the Disturbed
stuff, Linkin Park, some of the Audio Slave tunes, somr of the System of
the Down tunes, Led Zep, Tool, etc).
Set 1:
No Excuses – Alice In Chains
Secret Agent Man – Johnny Rivers
Rock in the USA – John Cougar
The Joker – Steve Miller
Interstate Love Song – Stone Temple Pilots
Black Balloon – Goo Goo Dolls
The Middle – Jimmy Eat World
No Matter What – Bad Finger
Basket Case – Greenday
Suffragette City – David Bowie
Set 2:
Plush – Stone Temple Pilots
Slide – Goo Goo Dolls
Honky Tonk Woman – Rolling Stones
Welcome to Paradise – Greenday
Come out and Play – Offspring
With or Without You – U2
Love Me Two Times – The Doors
Roadhouse – The Doors
Everlong – Foo Fighters
The Red – Chevelle
Set 3:
Aint That A Shame – Cheap Trick
Longview – Greenday
Plowed – Sponge
Anything, Anything – Drama Rama
No One Knows – Queens of The Stone Age (I sing this one)
Rebell Yell – Billy Idol
Hate to Say I Told You So – The Vines (I sing this one too)
Killing in the Name Of – Rage Against the Machine
All My Life – Foo Fighters
Extras:
Hard to Handle – Black Crows
Time of our life – Greenday
Brown Eyed Girl – Van Morrison
Machine Head – Bush
Sedated – The Ramones
Stray Cat Strut – Stray Cats
Institutionalized – Suicidal Tendencies
Wasting My Time – Default
I Want You to Want Me – Cheap Trick
Last Night – The Strokes
My Own Worst Enemy – Lit

Little Wing – Jimmy Hendrix
Push – Matchbox 20

WOW! A lawyer Rocker! I'm a big fan of most of the groups you mentioned.
When I moved a few months ago, the local radio is all Pop and Country,
and it's driving me absolutely nuts to not have any rock on the radio!!!
Arrghghghgh!! You like anything by Staind, Godsmack or 3 Doors Down?
I've seen them all in concert -they threw one hell of a party!
Good luck tonight!

We used to play a few tunes by Staind and I want to do the new one, So
Far Away (right in my vocal range and playing ability). I used to lobby
for “I Stand Alone” by Godsmack, but we didn’t have a singer at that
time that could pull that one off. I did hear a new Godsmack song while
on my road trip to Utah over T-Giving weekend that I thought was very
good. Not familiar with 3 Doors Down, and I’ll have to keep an ear out
for them since you like them plus the same stuff I like.
My last concert was Oz Fest this summer. I was in the second row (even
though my ticket was not for the 2nd row ;-). Of course, Chevelle and
Korn rocked, but I’d have to say my favorite band of the day was Marilyn
Manson. I’d go see them again any time (although I don’t really care for
the fashion, or lack of fashion they seem to inspire in the kids now-a-
days… I guess I’m too old to be goth – sp?).
It was a little depressing to watch Ozzy. He’s been part of some of
the best commercial rock tunes of the past couple of decades and
always a very powerful performer, but at Oz Fest he seemed to be only
a frail shell of his former self (I met him once before and had he and
his band mates sign the back of my 57 Fender P bass). It seemed like
he could barely lift the bucket of water that he normally would splash
into the audience… he only had the strength to soak the poor security
guard at the front of the stage. My bet is Parkinson’s, but for his
sake, I hope that’s not it (my Dad passed from Parkinson’s and its no
fun, believe me).
Well, got to go get ready for tonight!

I sympathize with you. I'm not a country fan although I don't have
anything particularly against it. My buddy and next-door neighbor, Nick
is a huge country fan, so I get exposed to it every once in a while by
him. I recall liking the Drinking Bone song, the fishing song (I'm going
to miss her), the one about private so-in-so (the guy who buys a used
Corvette and finds the letter in the glove box by the former owner who
was killed in battle), the one about the "good stuff", etc.
I guess its sort of cool the way the Country songs always tell a story.
For some unknown reason, Larry wants us to do 1 (and only 1) country
song. Something about whiskey for my men and beer for my horses? I've
heard it and I'm not sure what the attraction is, but it would be an
easy learn and who knows, the audience might enjoy it.
Even if I happen to hate a song or two during a show, it only takes up a
few minutes of any show and if the audience likes it and has a good
time, then I end up liking it and having a good time too (even though I
would not listen to that song on my own time).
OK, this time I really have to go.

Back in the 80's, I used to play (in the cover band that I was in at

The song is included along with many others in the "B sides" of the
album "The best of 1980-1990":)
Oh my "I will follow" and "bullet the blue sky" are from their
begining:). The very first time I listened to U2, I was 7 years old, My
brother Tomas got me into their music. They rock!!
I wish I was 22 back in the 80´s (I got to discovered them a
little late:) )
Here is the lyric of "Luminous times (Hold on to love)"
Hey...sister love
Hey...sister soul
Hey...oh my love
You turn me around tonight
Hey...sister love
Save my soul, save my soul
Hold on to love, hold on to love
Love won't let you go
Love won't let you go
Hold on to love
See the sunshine in her soul
Hey...sister love
Hey...seems so bright
She comes like carnival
She is the big wheel
She turned my head around
Turned my head around
She is the speedway
She is the slipstream
She is coming 'round
Hold on to love
Hold on to love
Love won't let you go
Hold on to love
Hold on to love
She the sunlight in her song
See the sunlight in her soul
She is the gun fire
She is the car crash
She is a avalanche
She is the thunder
She is the waves and
She pulls me under
I love you 'cause I need to
Not because I need you
I love you 'cause I understand
That God has given me your hand
He holds me in a tiny fist
And still I need your kiss
Hold...on to love
Hold...
See the sunlight in her song
See the sunlight in her soul
:)

Onceyou determine that your case has likely been given to an officer, youcan calculate a realistic overdue date and contact them if the casebecomes overdue.

I'll try an IBIS search..... no idea of what im looking for, but
thanks
According to this site
http://www.usdoj.gov/oig/audit/INS/0314/findings.htm#17,
"According to the current INS's Standard Operations Procedure Manual for
the Interagency Border Inspection System (November 21, 2002), each
service center must conduct IBIS checks on all petitions within 15 days
of receipt. Checks are conducted in daily batches17 that include all
petitions and applications received, transferred in, reopened, or that
have had a data change. The IBIS check requirement mandates that checks
be conducted for all petitioners, applicants, beneficiaries, and any
derivatives (for example, businesses and attorneys) that will receive an
immediate benefit from submitted applications and petitions. Premium
petitions are not checked separately; rather they are generally included
in the daily batches.
The IBIS check is valid for only 35 days. During our fieldwork, INS
officials stated that the initial IBIS batch checks might not capture
all new receipts, potentially missing up to 20 percent of petitions
received.18 Although no reason was given for missing any receipts, we
were told that if, at the time of adjudication, a petition does not
contain evidence of an IBIS check, or if the check was conducted more
than 35 days prior to adjudication, the Center Adjudications Officer
must perform an individual check on that petition.19"
17. The batch checks are "front end" verifications at time of receipt.
According to the Standard Operations Procedure, adjudicators also
have the discretion to perform individual IBIS checks at the time of
adjudication prior to final approval.
18. Some receipts are missed in the initial IBIS batch checks because of
IBIS's interface with NCIC and the CLAIMS databases.
19. If a second check is necessary, it is performed by the individual
Adjudications Officer using an online query of the IBIS database,
rather than as part of another batch check.

The brand name is “Sigma” which is Martin’s imported brand name. It’s a
quality acoustic bass (the intonation is perfect all the way up the
neck… not so for the Honner base this one replaced) that has stereo
outputs (a small mike positioned inside the body of the guitar near the
sound hole, and a condenser or strip pickup [not sure what they are
called] located under the bridge). I picked it up used form the bass
player in the Spanking Violets (it was too good of a deal to pass up)
and when I bought it that made for my second acoustic bass as I already
had a Honner (sp?) acoustic bass at that time. So I sold the Honner and
kept the Martin/Sigma.

I figured that was the case (a joke). Shannon did an excellent job last
night at the show, and was able to set up & load his own drums in and
out of his flight cases and in and out of Larry’s truck. He even asked
me if I needed any help from him in loading my gear into my truck :-).
He’s a good team player.

Is this another “joke” (you mentioned something else before about being
surprised because I say I don’t solicit business on the group)? For the
record, this is “his” project. I was not paid a red cent for helping out
and writing & recording the bass parts, nor will I receive a red cent
for any of the album sales. This is all about Doug (the guitarist in
Alaska… and in fact the title of his album is “Its all about me”). Doug
is an old friend of Larry’s, and we helped him out as “friends” do for
each other. Larry is my friend, and Doug is his friend. That makes Doug
my friend too (and even more so since I had a chance to meet with him
and get to know him when he came down from Alaska to hang out for a
month or so with Larry, John (the engineer) and I during the recording
process. In fact, much of the album was recorded in the back room in my
office that I use as my practice room.

band's stuff. You can download our whole CD if you're interested. Also
we are currently working on new stuff - 10 years after breaking up!
When I get some extra time, I’ll go give it a quick listen.
As far as the cover tune list, yes we know a lot of Greenday. Probably
because those are fun, easy songs to do and sing (although I’d rather do
some other Greenday tunes like Geek Stink Breath, She and a few others
that I can’t remember the titles of off the top of my head). I also like
STP quite a bit and its sad to hear they have finally called it quits.
The older tunes like the Stones Honky Tonk and Van Morrison are not my
thing, but I learned them for a band I was in last year that played once
a month at a big swap meet that had audience members ranging across all
age groups (from children in strollers…with their parents or course, to
senior citizens). It was funny to see little 5 year old kids singing
along to the words of “The Middle” (Jimmy Eat World). Those older tunes
(and the tame ones like The Middle) came in handy for that type of gig,
and came in handy last night for filling up the sets (Besides, as I said
Pats likes the mellow tunes on the first set and the oldies fit that
bill). As we add more contemporary tunes, the oldies will be cut for
most shows.
The show last night was a successful 1st show for the new line up. The
bar staff thought we sounded very good, however as they always do, they
complained about the volume making it tough for them to take the drink
orders at the bar. The place was pretty packed and they did well at the
bar, so they really couldn’t complain too much ;-).

You are a noble man. Since this is an international forum, I took the
liberty of looking up the derivation of "red cent".
The red in red cent refers to the fact that a U.S. cent (penny) is, and
was, made of copper, a reddish metal. The expression dates from the
early to mid-19th century. That is, if anyone cares.

I had a little more time to spare today, so I thought I’d post a better
reply (than my brief reply of yesterday).
You can find these reports right on the USCIS’ own website now, or if
you want you can find them on one of my pages, located at,
http://members.aol.com/MDUdall/sctimes.htm
I believe that page tells you how to use the reports to calculate an
overdue date, and I know I explain this in detail on the following page
(so try there), http://members.aol.com/MDUdall/cscjit.htm
(this page is just about I-129f at the CSC, but again it explains how to
use the report to calculate an overdue date).
As far as IBIS: If a case gets an IBIS hit, you “cannot then use these
reports” to calculate an overdue date as those reports are “only” for
cases that do not get an IBIS hit.
If a case gets an IBIS hit, it will be pulled from the main stream of
cases and will be sent to another area for additional follow up IBIS
work. That means the case will experience a delay, slight to significant
while the follow up IBIS work is done.
A case will have an IBIS hit if “either” the petitioner or beneficiary
have an arrest record in the U.S. “OR” if someone with the same name
as either the petitioner or beneficiary has ever been arrested in the
US before. So even if you have not been arrested before, that case
might still get an IBIS hit. The more common the name, the more likely
is an IBIS hit.
Good luck.

Sounds cool. You know I started as a bass player.

Sounds like a cool dude. So how did the gig go?

Ah I get it now. Sorry, slow on that one.
For the record, this is “his” project. I was not paid a red cent for helping out and writing & recording the bass parts, nor will I receive a red cent for any of the album sales.
Yeah but it's not always about the money, just the recognition sometimes.

The older tunes like the Stones Honky Tonk and Van Morrison are not my thing,
I've made it a personal policy of mine to not be in a band that plays
"Born to be Wild". Sorry, I've done that tune sooooo many times in my
life I am totally sick of it!

That's good.
