I have been working as a manager for a retail chain for the past 6 years in new york city. Just last week my District Manager told me that my job was being eliminated, and about 4 other managers were being let go. She decided to tell me this when I'm 37 weeks pregnant, and in 2 weeks I was about to go on Maternity Leave. She then told me my severence pay would only be 4 weeks of my pay. Is this legal? Could it be they did not want to pay for my diability?
My termination letter said they needed flexible managers that can open and close the store, with flexible hours. My D.M. knew I could not close the store due to stress on the baby and I even provided her a doctors note 2 months ago.

Your employer can terminate a pregnant employee as long as the reason for the termination is not due to pregnancy. You should look into pregnancy anti-discrimination laws. You can read about the laws at: www.eeoc.gov (http://www.eeoc.gov).
