i'm over here visiting in North Carolina, got married in September

last week we recieved 4 receipt notices I-130, I-864, I-485, I-765

on 2 notices(I-485 & I-765) it told me my next step was to telephone
BCIS to make an appoinment for biometrics and fingerprinting....now i
originally filed at Charlotte office North Carolina(my local sub
office)....but cannot get an appointment at Charlotte (fully booked for
next 45 days)so

the lady at BCIS call-centre has had to book me into the next nearest
support centre which is Alexandria Virginia...next Tuesday(i hope i
don't encounter problems with different states & jurisdictions etc)....

4 questions:

will i get my EAD there and then on the day of biometrics and
fingerprinting appointment?....

and what about SSN?......when do i apply for that...will the BCIS direct
me on what to do next?

i have been given a receipt number on my i-485 letter,.....which i'm
told lets me stay here legally why my AOS process at MSC goes
through.....

Can i only apply for a SSN once i am a permanent resident?

also...been here for 3 months now. Have to be a NC resident before
taking driving test, and also have my SSN i think(at the mo i'm driving
on UK full licence)

can i drive on my full uk licence until i'm a permanent
resident?.....this may take a good 6 or 7 more months before i know.

Thankyou.....

Depends on your status. If K-3 you can apply after you have your EAD card.
They may tell you what to do next, but USCIS and SSA are two separate
government agencies and what they tell you about applying for an SSN might
be wrong. Look at the SSA Website:

You can apply as soon as you have a document authorizing work, i.e. I-688B,
I-766, I-551

I guess no one answered because this is in the FAQ and has been
discussed in other threads you could've looked up in a search. But
here you go:

How To Get A Number And Card

To get an original number and card, you'll need to complete an
Application for a Social Security Card (Form SS-5), and show documents
that prove your age, identity, U.S. citizenship or lawful alien status
(your passport with the k-1 visa and the I-94 are enough).

To get an application: ]www.socialsecurity.gov/online/ss-
5.html

Don't worry if you can't or forgot to download it from the net, they
have forms at the local offices, but I recommend going prepared.

To find your local Social Security office: ]http://s00dace.ssa.gov/pro/fol/fol-
home.html

Toll-free number 1-800-772-1213

There is no charge to get a Social Security card. This service is FREE.
