I was advised by my immigration attorney that doing a "non-legal"
ceremony before the legal one while you're still waiting for paperwork
is definitely ILLEGAL. Apparently it constitutes visa fraud because
the person says they're coming in as a tourist, not to participate in
a ceremony.

So does that mean you can't get dressed up and go to a nice party
while you're here as a "tourist"? I dunno.... doesn't make sense to
me. But apparently when you go for your AOS interview and you have to
show pictures of the wedding and all that, it could make for a very
sticky situation.
