I really need help figuring this situation out. Ive been working with this company for about 8 months. Im young and very aggressive in my work habits. Since the beginning Ive always respected my co-workers and asked for the same respect to be given back. I started working in June and was hired by a male figure who at the time seemed to have been a very motivating boss. Well with time, I found that he had issues with his assistant manager and he took another branch- leaving the original branch to the assistant manager. When he moved to the new branch he took both another new hire and myself along with him. Getting to this new location seemed okay and I was up for it because I felt strongly that he would train me well and he said I could get promotions soon. After two months in this new office, issues started to occur. Like I stated, I ask for the same respect I give; and from the beginning have told my bosses that there are some days where I will come into work not being so happy and hyper and just be more serious and quiet. So when I do come into an office in that way, to just give me my space but I wont ignore anyone. WELLLLL.... my boss wont have that. When I do come into the office like that he starts picking on me and taking it personal....as if its something i have against him...EVEN THOUGH I REMIND HIM NOTHING IS THE MATTER AND I JUST NEED TO GET WORK DONE!. Well in early September, it got so bad taht he would call me out in front of other employees and it got to the point where in a meeting between our branch, I was getting picked on so much that I argued back and began to cry , stood up and said I quit if this is how he would act and walked out. WELL after bringing this up to my district manager and regional manager, nothing much was done but told me to talk things out and dont react on instinct. At the time it made sense...so i went back and "patched things up". Now a couple of months later, everything is back to that attitude again. It started in Late january, I wanted to just come in and work because I kept being told that if i didnt do my number of loans i couldnt get promoted, so i was under major stress. and on top ofthat, I do everything a manager does in the office, I know the system, I know reports, I handled bills and orders....when in reality it is not in my job desc. but my boss only "trusted" me to do it. So i was on work overload and on top of that, I was the manager in charge while he was out, and Im the lowest rank in the office.
well... end of month rolled around and my boss would continuously bug me by giving me attitude because I wasnt in the mood to talk. He dropped things on my desk, kept saying i had to do certain things on loans to get promoted, and even ignored me when i needed help at times. I took a week off (vacation) at the beginning of feb. and when i came back he took a week off for his vacation- leaving me in charge for the week. I didnt get any loans at all and in fact had to run the branch myself. Did extra work all week and he got back only to be with a bad attitude. I have tried to work and just not get disturbed by pity things at work and he gets upset and makes rude comments indirectly towards me, asks for my opinion on reports and dismisses them, points things out on my work in front of the employees and doesnt do it to others, and the other day he kept trying to take a picture of me and i kept asking him to stop and he wouldnt until i yelled at him to stop. He used to have a picture of me and only me on his desk and i used to try to tear them off and he would reprint them and put them back up. so i gave up.
he would also constantly come over and tell me im his favorite and he is so happy im in that office and he loves me. and i would ignore it cause it got sooo annoying. he would constantly try to hug me and i would avoid it as much as possible.
TODAY things blew up. He started picking on me and really going off on me in front of people saying that I wasnt listening to him and didnt do things the way it needed to be done. (which is all i have been doing!!!) He made me go to the closing room to discuss the problems and I began to tell him how i did not appreciate the treatment and the harassing (with the camera) after i asked hm to stop and all he did was shrug his shoulders. he began to tell me that this is the real world and i cant just choose to leave a company because i dont get along with him. and then he continued to tell me that after all the things he had done for me,how could i treat him like this, and i responded by saying to not do me any favors and that i never asked for his "aid". He said that i HAD to tell him THAT moment what i wanted because he had people who would love to work for him and who want to come back. When i said i wanted a transfer he said I couldnt really be doing that whenever i wanted to do it. He even told me that if i wanted to call the district manager that he didnt care because he could defend himself. (threatning i would get no help with this matter).....
IM SO STRESSED OUT AND THIS IS ONLY A BEGINNING TO EVERYTHING I HAVE GONE THROUGH! WHAT CAN I DO?????? CAN I FILE HARASSMENT???
I MAY BE YOUNG BUT IM NOT STUPID.... I JUST DONT KNOW WHERE TO GO FROM HERE. CAN SOMEONE PLEEEEASE HELP ME.
I already tried to call my district manager but he is on vacation until monday. Should Igo to work tomorrow?????? PLEASE HELP!!!!\

BY THE WAY, i work in CA for Citifinancial

Unfortunately for you, if you are saying that the manager is treating this way because you are young, a complaint of age discrimination won't help you. That is because age discrimination laws protect persons who are 40 and above.

I recommend that you contact HR as soon as possible. While you may not be discriminated against on the basis of age, it could be another factor. Regardless of discrimination, I'm sure that your employer's HR department will be very concerned about poor management skills.

Let me know what you decide to do.
