I read on one of the posters at our job about Job safety. Well at my job I was driving a company car while it was raining and noticed the car rear kept sliding. I was on I-95 in a 65 doing 50mph. Well I got out in the rain and the rear tires looked like NACAR tires. I mentioned this to our to our operations manager a few weeks before and they said they took care of this. I just found out from the other supervisor that they didn't want to pay for new tires so they took the rear tires and put them on the front and took the slicks and put on the back. I could have been hurt. As a supervisor we are suppose to look after our guys and about six months back we had a brake problem with one of our vehicles. A guard to me that the brake didn't work. I told my Operations manager and the Sr. VP. They said they took the car in. Well the guard complained again. The Operation said the guard was making it up. So he droove the and he hit the brakes and they didn't work and he hit the curb. We have cars with door that don't shut, seats that move when you hit the brakes, and cars that just leak fluid everywhere. One of the worst was we (supervisors) to the higher ups about a 2007 vehicle last year needing an oil change. Well they didn't want to get one until the car started shutting off. They asked me and another supervisor to go and get it and bring it back to the office. While driving on 695 it shut off in the middle of the highway. I was almost rear ended by a semi. I still work at this company and many of the cars have bald tires, no headlights of have other safety issues. If the workers don't drive the cars or ask for them to be fixed they are told not to mention it again. Isn't putting worker in unsafe cars aganist Maryland Law?

Are these passenger cars or Commerical vehicles? It makes a difference. If passenger vehicles, there aren't any maintenance standards required by law apart from those required of any vehicle on the road. If an accident occurs and the employee is in the course of their employment at the time of the accident, then it would fall under WC.

They're passenger cars owned by the company. Its nothing to do with an accident. I just remember reading something about an empoler can't put you in an unsafe evironment. These tires are NASCAR. We tell them about and the say whatever. My thing is if I'm driving and the tire blows out due to bald tires with little holes worn in them isn't that a safety issue. I think I read about the safety on one of those posters. It was the Maryland one that was like OSHA. This isn't normal wear and tear this neglict. We had a former MDTA police officer(retired) 2 years ago complain about only having two lug nuts on a tire. They told him to deal with it and drive the car if he didn't he would be fired. He drove the car and the tire came off. Also two cars with drivers seat barley connected. I don't drive any of these cars but my guys do. They fired a guy drove a car that was letting fumes burn on the engine and he passed out. He isn't that bright but he got fired. I went back out to check and see what happened. The cap to the power steering which was missing was replaced with foil by the operation manager. Fuild was all over the engine and was burning coming into the vents. This have nothing to do with regular wear and tear it that they tell the guards they are going to get fired. Also Anne Arundel County, Howard County police, and Baltimore City has giving us work orders and ordered us to keep vehicle off the road. One officer ordered one of the guys not to drive one car because it had no working seatbelts. He told them 2 month before but they said they didn't want to spend the money. He refused at the time to drive the car. They told him if he didn't drive the car they would fire him.
