I'm former military and I'm not us to civilian job and laws. I'm a field supervisor for a security company. I was threaten by my operations manager today that I would be fired if I didn't get a sticker for the Port of Baltimore on my car. This is a cover for them because the real reason they threaten was because they asked me to work another persons shift and I said I couldn't because I had just gotten off. I had just worked 12am to 8am but didn't get in bed until 10am due to the fact one of the guards was having a problem. I also left a message for the operations manager about what happened. Well he called me at 1204pm on my cell which was off so then he called my house phone around 1220pm. He asked If I could come in early I said I couldn't because I had little sleep and I would have to get up before 3pm just to get to the office and get the supervisor vehicle. Well no one covered the people at the contract yelled at them so they threaten me. And whats so funny I told them they only had three guards that could get on and if one got sick we would be screwed. They also said I would need to come and help them with my own car when I signed a contract that did not say I had to drive my car. I did few times before and never got reimbursed for my gas after I filled out the paperwork. So they now want to fire me because I won't use my car to come in on my off day and also drive guards around. Can they fire because I will not come in on my off day? Sorry it was alot I know but can someone give me info or point me in the right direction?

Yes, they can fire you if you do not come in on your day off if requested unless you have a binding employment contract to the contrary.

You have to work whatever hrs. your employer requires/asks you to unless you have a binding employment contract to the contrary. There are some exceptions as to max. # of hrs. that can be worked for minors & a few occupations (ie airline pilot, long haul trucker).

Thats screwed up because we have a policy that went into effect after they asked a supervisor to work 20hrs drving and he fell alseep at the wheel and he was demoted no double shifts. I wasn't told to work I was asked if I could and I couldn't. Also we have a contract and it doesn't state that I have to drive my own car. Also this is a company that makes its guards drive cars with no brakes and fires them when they complain about unsafe conditions.
