I work as a newspaper photographer. For the last 13 years I've worked 9-5:30 Mon-Fri. My employer says the extra 1/2 hour is so we can take a full, 1 hour lunch. We are able to leave the office to eat, however, if breaking news erupts we would have to finish our lunch immediately and cover it. Granted, this rarely happens and if I pressed the issue I would probably be allowed to leave earlier or make up the time another day. Is it legal to make employees take a full hour lunch so they can keep you later in the day?
